Virtuathon deliver daily wellbeing to employees 4,732 miles away in Oregon, USA
Virtuathon, a company from Liverpool, is delivering their app-based, eight-week wellbeing and physical activity programme to First Community Credit Union employees from 29 offices throughout the State of Oregon, 4,732 miles away on the West coast of the USA.
First Community Credit Union has been serving Oregonians since 1957, and with more than $1 billion in assets and 76,000 members, today they are among the strongest credit unions in the US.
Workplace Virtuathon is a goal-oriented, wellbeing and physical activity initiative that maximises employee participation, especially beginners and the less active, to help them understand the impact of diet, stress, mindset and physical activity on their health to encourage positive lifestyle choices, both in and out of the workplace.
The initiative provides First Community employees with the three key ingredients required to encourage long-term healthy habits;
The eight-week lifestyle wellbeing programme has been further personalised to First Community and is delivered through the Get Event Fit app to guide, educate and motivate employees daily throughout their programme. Participating employees receive easy-to-follow exercise workouts with videos, physical activity education, recovery advice, yoga, nutrition education, healthy eating recipes, positive mindset advice, meditation, employee wellbeing education and much more to inspire them throughout their eight-week journey.
Participating employees will complete their Workplace Virtuathon either at the First Community sponsored 5K or 10K charity ‘fun run’ in April, or ‘virtually’ at any location – in the local park or on a treadmill – individually or with colleagues and at their own pace, so it’s ideal for beginners who perhaps lack confidence in their own physical ability. All employees are then rewarded with a finisher medal for their achievement.
Renee Nelson, Vice President of First Community Credit Union, commented, “We had been looking for ways to build team spirit and camaraderie which is really challenging given our physical distances between branches – some are over 200 miles apart! I couldn’t find anything even close to what Workplace Virtuathon offers… I needed a partner company to pull this off for us who could provide the “bells & whistles” for technology and marketing and have the right approach in the materials that would appeal to a broad range of staff demographics.”
I’m receiving so many positive emails from staff who are learning something new everyday, for example, one of our regional VP’s sent a message out to her staff in multiple locations; ‘Yesterday, I discovered that ‘Fartlek’ is a word… and it apparently means running as fast as you can, then jogging, then running again, etc. I also discovered this morning that 30 seconds is about a half second less than eternity if you are doing a wall sit!”
So the fact that Virtuathon is not in the US is actually something that everyone is having fun with and reminds us that the World isn’t so big after all and also that it’s fun to learn new things.”
Chris Mitchell, Managing Director of Virtuathon, commented, "I am personally very proud that First Community Credit Union have sourced, identified and selected Virtuathon, a UK company, to support and strengthen their Employee Value Proposition from nearly 5,000 miles away. We are passionate about encouraging health in the workplace as it is so closely linked to employees’ physical and mental wellbeing, and Workplace Virtuathon makes it very easy for employees, irrespective of their location, to get active and healthier with the full support of a company personalised wellbeing programme delivered daily via their mobile app.”
